How can I overcome fear?
Well, have you ever been paralysed by fear either by having to do something you’ve never done or perhaps having to go through an extended period where you’re taking massive action but your results are not necessarily showing up yet? Are you starting to question your talent, your belief, the ability that you can actually get stuff done and create the results you’re seeking?
I’ve certainly been paralysed by fear a number of times. So how do we overcome it, because we know that success is just being able to act in spite of fear. It’s not about eliminating fear, and that’s certainly not possible, I believe. We all have some intrinsic fears that shows up in our success journey. So how do we overcome fear? How do we act in spite of it? I think it’s really very important to refocus ourselves and ask ourselves, why am I actually doing this? What is it that I actually am doing this long term for? Why did I actually start this? Reconnecting ourselves to our why and the transformation that we’re seeking. Just remember the last time that you were going to jump into cold water to have a swim, you sometimes get paralysed by fear cause you know how cold it is and that by jumping in, it’s not going to be comfortable. But think about 30 seconds ahead. Once you actually jumped in, how did you feel? Did you actually feel so cold that you couldn’t keep swimming? And not only that, how did you feel about yourself? That you actually did the action. That you actually went ahead and did something that was scary?
So when I get paralysed by fear, I know that I will actually love more the feeling that I acted in spite of it. So I future pace and I know that whatever is happening for me that it’s probably because I’m outside my comfort zone, I’m hitting some boundaries that I’m actually stretching. So first of all, I remind myself I’m in the right place, I’m expanding, I’m becoming more. But second, I fast forward about 30 seconds or perhaps three, four days or whatever it is, 30 days, three years from now. Knowing that I have acted in spite of fear, is going to make me feel so good about myself that I’m willing to act now in spite of it. Does that make sense? So if you’re getting paralysed by fear increasingly, just know that how proud you’re going to feel about yourself in knowing that on the other side of fear, that is where results are showing up. So if you’re experiencing fear, you’re probably doing the right thing to become more, to create more success. So act in spite of it so that you can feel proud of yourself. And in the end, have the results that you’re seeking.
