The Greatest Mistake

The greatest mistake. Looking back, personally I think I make mistakes on a daily basis. I don’t know about you, but I definitely make mistakes on a daily basis. But here’s the thing. I think it’s not about the actual mistake or how we call it, or us calling it “mistake.” I think at the end of the day, it’s a lesson. It’s a lesson that we need to learn. Until we learn that lesson, we don’t move forward. Not moving forward means that you keep repeating the same thing over and over, which sometimes is the same mistake, until you learn.

So, looking back and if I had to point to one mistake that was the most costly mistake that I’ve ever made, would be to think that I know something. I think we are in constant and never ending change. There is no such thing as status quo in life. You can apply it to your business, you can apply it to your day to day life. Never assume that you know it all. Stay humble.

Stay hungry, or thirsty, it depends on how you look at it, for knowledge. I think the biggest mistake is to stop learning. If I was to point to that one thing that will stop you from achieving more and being better in anything you do in life, I think it’s stop learning. The moment you stop learning, life stops. While you stop, the world, the earth is still moving around. People keep living their own lives. Technology keeps improving. People come up with new ideas and new things. The world evolves. By you not adapting to that and by you stopping your learning, I think, at least for me, that could be the biggest mistake we, or I’ve ever made.

Sometimes we feel we know something and we get tired maybe. It’s easy to say, “You know what? I’m going to take a break and that’s it. I think I have arrived and I’m just done,” kind of thing, which we all go through that. But just to have that in the back of your mind, kind of always pressing that no matter what happens, you’re going to be always learning something, whatever that is. You need to learn a lesson on how to get better at relationships, how to get better at business, how to … There’s always a how to or something that you need to learn from every single person that you meet.

I think we’re all unique, not uniquely defective, but unique in our own way and there is always something that you can learn from everybody. Whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, it’s a lesson in itself. The biggest mistake or the greatest mistake, I think I’ve ever made is to stop learning, to think that I have arrived and stop learning.
