How to become more disciplined? To become more disciplined, first of all, we would need to go back to what is the reason why you’re going to be doing something. Something that is going to probably take you out of your comfort zone. Once you have the reason why, you probably have enough motivation to go and get yourself into action, but as you go through that, how do you stay focused? How you stay disciplined to achieve the goal that you set yourself to achieve? It goes down to saying ‘No’ to certain things.
For example, nowadays we have amazing social media. It’s very easy to get distracted. It’s very easy to compare yourself to others and think “Well, on the outside all these people look so good. When I go open my Facebook wall, all these people are doing all these activities and they have all these things, the cars, the houses, the phones, the watches. All of these things and maybe because I don’t have that I’m not as successful as they are. Maybe it’s not worth to do what I’m doing because I don’t feel like I’m good enough.”
Again, because I don’t feel I’m good enough, I don’t stay disciplined so I may as well go do something else that is going to technically and realistically take me away from achieving my goal. To achieve our goal, again, we go back to staying disciplined.
You need to learn to say ‘No’ to things. To learn to say no to things in your mind, first of all. To say, “Okay. Well, that’s okay for them. It’s OK for them to have all these things, but it’s a ‘No’ for me to not get distracted by shiny objects and not get distracted by telling myself that I’m not good enough because I am good enough. I just need to get the things done consistently enough, and be disciplined so I can get the results. Eventually, I might be like these people.” It starts with now and today. Being focused and disciplined.
The other thing to say ‘No’ to sometimes is friends trying to take you out for dinner, for lunch, or cinema, or something, and it’s about not saying ‘No’, but it’s saying ‘Not now’.
First I’m going to go and get this done and as a reward I’m going to go out with my friends for dinner or to the cinema, wherever you need to go. The most important thing, the most income producing activity, yet, whether it’s in relationships or anything in life, I think it’s about saying ‘No’ to things. In my case, I think what we’ve learned over the years is that as you become more and more successful, you get approached with more and more opportunities. For us, the hardest thing is to say no to them because as you’re having more and more opportunities, you’re spreading yourself thinner and thinner and thinner and you’re losing your focus.
When you think about that in the real world. Think about the augmented light. When you get the sun, it focuses and goes through that glass and that glass, the only reason that glass is going to create fire is because the augmented light gets all the light that goes into that piece of glass and it focuses that in one single point. You are exactly the same. If you want to stay disciplined and really get results, you need to say no to everything else so you can focus on the one and only thing that is going to get you further. For that, you need to be able to choose what is going to be that thing that is going to take you further in your life, in your business, in your relationships, in anything.
